Gap 360 Operations Director Checks Out Thailand

By Jane McLellan

Last updated: 26th March 2013

Thailand is one of our most popular destinations and I can completely understand why…I love the delicious food, the warm climate, tropical paradise islands, friendly locals, the unique culture and the endless list of amazing things to see and do, and it seems I’m not the only one to be won over – just ask our Thai gap travellers!  I’ve just returned from a three-week trip to Thailand to check out all the amazing programmes we offer and make sure everything is spot-on for our gap year travellers.

My name is Jane Mclellan, the Operations Director here at Gap 360 and it is really important to me that I frequently visit our destinations to ensure that we are always maintaining a high quality service (it’s a hard job, I know, but somebody’s got to do it!). I visit the hotels and guesthouses we use on our programmes and check for things like cleanliness and good security to make sure we are offering the best standard of care to all our customers. I also do risk assessments on all of our projects to ensure that our customers will be safe and feel secure, and most of all, have a good time without having to worry.

Another important element of my visits abroad are to review all the activities we include on our trips, to make sure we are offering the most interesting, fun ones available, and I am always on the look out to add more new and exciting activities to our growing list! I spend time meeting the local staff and teams who work on our projects, making sure we are offering the very best programmes for gap year travel.

Regarding all the incredible, worthwhile volunteer projects we offer, it is important to me that I meet the ground staff, so I can fully understand the needs of each project and learn more about how our volunteers can help in a worthwhile and efficient way. I ask lots of questions about any local needs relating to each project and community, discover where development is most needed and how best Gap 360 and our dedicated volunteers can help. I also make sure I meet our current volunteers to check they are all happy and having a good time on their gap volunteering experience!

During my three-week visit to Thailand, I visited the following programmes:

If you want a real insight into the day-to-day experience on all of these amazing Thai projects, keep an eye out for my upcoming blogs.  I will focus on one programme at a time and give you all the low-down, including what’s new and any upcoming exciting developments on our Thailand gap programmes.
