Multi-Country Europe Travel Guide

Europe, a tapestry of history and modernity, offers a plethora of travel experiences that cater to every taste. From the romantic canals of Venice to the majestic castles of Scotland, Europe's architecture is a living testament to its rich past. Wander through the charming streets of Prague, where Gothic spires reach for the sky, or explore the vibrant neighborhoods of Lisbon, where fado music fills the air with melancholic beauty.

But Europe's allure extends beyond its iconic landmarks. Delve into the diverse culinary scenes, from the bustling markets of Barcelona to the gourmet offerings of Parisian bistros. Indulge in the world-class museums of London, where masterpieces from history's greatest artists come to life. For the nature enthusiast, Europe offers scenic hikes through the Swiss Alps or leisurely strolls along the beaches of the Amalfi Coast. With its historical depth, artistic treasures, and a fusion of cultures that have shaped its identity, Europe invites travelers to embark on a journey that spans time and bridges the gap between the old and the new.

The European climate varies, but all European countries experience the summer peak season from June-September and the winter season from November-March. In the winter, especially in Northern and Eastern Europe, the temperature can drop well below freezing, and experience snow, but many European destinations are still popular in winter, for either ski seasons or the world-famous Christmas markets held in many European cities. August can be a very hot month in countries such as Italy or Greece and this can be a month where local services can be reduced, for example in France or Italy. Regular rainfall is common across Europe. Popular months to visit Europe are May, June and September as the weather is usually warm, pleasant and mild, making it ideal for sightseeing.

Visa

Visas may be required in order to enter or transit through certain countries depending on your passport nationality, your reason for travel and how long you intend to stay.

Visa, passport and entry rules are subject to change and you should check the most up-to-date information from the relevant embassy or visa specialist.

To make things easier we have teamed up with The Travel Visa Company who are one of the UK’s leading travel visa specialists. You can use their website, alongside embassy websites,  to find out the specific entry requirements for the countries you intend to travel to.

For a fee, their dedicated team of experts can also apply for visas on your behalf, taking away the hassle and streamlining the process for you if you wish. For more details on the services they provide please click here – The Travel Visa Company

Passport

Passports must be kept in good condition. Travellers with damaged passports may be refused entry at immigration. It is the responsibility of the traveller to ensure that all travel documents are in good condition before they travel. Most countries will also require at least 6 months of validity on your passport from the time you finish your trip.

Further Entry Requirements

Some countries will require proof of certain vaccines, such as yellow fever or covid, in order to gain entry. Please check with the relevant embassy or a visa specialist before travelling.

The number of languages you will encounter across Europe will be as varied as the locations you visit!  Each European language is unique, and you may know a few words or more of some well-known languages, such as French, Spanish or German. In major cities and tourist spots across Europe, English is widely spoken, so you shouldn’t have too much trouble finding a friendly local to understand you!

Most European countries use a two-pin plug, which is different from the UK 3-pin plugs, so any UK appliances will need a universal adaptor.

For UK visitors, most of Europe will be familiar in terms of local laws and customs. Be aware that many countries in Europe are Catholic countries, and when visiting churches or religious sites you should cover your shoulders and wear appropriate clothing.

Health

When travelling to Europe you should carry a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC), which entitles you to medical treatment while abroad.  This is not a substitute for travel insurance so you should also ensure you have the appropriate travel insurance in place before you travel.

Safety

Pickpocketing and petty theft are a risk when travelling across Europe so keep your valuables and belongings safe, secure and out of sight. Take care in major city centres, especially on public transport.

In some areas of Europe, for example in some of the former Yugoslav republics, e.g Bosnia-Herzegovina, there are risks from landmines in more rural areas, although major cities have been cleared.  Stay on established routes and roads and stay with your guide.
