Gap Years for Grown Ups
Lately I’ve been reading a lot about the new trend of the older generation taking time out to travel the world. I think it’s really great that people are taking time out to do this; after all, what’s stopping them? By that time they’ve probably got disposable wealth; no mortgages or commitments and a steady pension to rely on. If you’ve got the time and the money, the best and most exhilarating way to spend them is to hop on a plane and share your valuable skills and knowledge with those who need it.
The oldest traveller I have read about is 95 – he’s travelled from Australia to almost every country in Europe, staying in crowded hostels and using any means of transport necessary. He even sold his house to fund it all! This is an amazing inspiration for those who wonder if they missed out on travelling in their younger years, it just proves there really is no limit on what you can achieve!
There are plenty of opportunities for people of all ages to pack in the rat race and take time to rejuvenate and broaden the mind, including paid work, TEFL courses, volunteering, or going off on your own to explore!
