The Importance of Travel Insurance

By Gap 360

Last updated: 20th June 2014

A new survey has just come out, compiled by the FCO (Foreign and Commonwealth Office) and the travel association ABTA, showing that 42% of young Britons who go travelling, do so without insurance.

This is a pretty scary statistic.

Understandably travel insurance can be considered an annoying extra expense that you probably won’t use, but if you head off travelling and something bad happens to you on your gap year, you could end up bankrupting yourself or your parents.

We have all seen on the news over the past few years stories of people who have had accidents or been taken ill overseas, and then received a bill of tens or even hundreds of thousands of pounds. Some of them cannot get home because of the expense.

Gap 360 will not allow this to happen to you. If you travel we us, you need to pay for travel insurance. We have arranged a very good policy that offers excellent cover at a reasonable price, but you don’t have to take ours, you can shop around if you wish.

But if you don’t take the Gap 360 policy, you must show us proof of insurance before you travel. It is part of our overall travel safely policy. Be prepared, plan your trip with the help of our travel advisors and budget for the insurance. On a year- long trip the cost is only about £1 a day and covers you whilst working abroad where as most others will not. See the Gap 360 Travel Insurance page for more information…
